I decided to write a Christmas song. Happy Holidays!

It never snows on Christmas anymore.
She meets her parents at the tree
and sees her gift waiting on the floor.
with smiles almost all around
she already knows
it’s not what she was hoping for.
‘cos you can’t get estrogen delivered to your door.

Santa Claus must be non-binary,
since old people think he’s made-up.
It’s the parents that give your gifts,
like the gender you returned to the shop.
You had to accept an exchange
‘cos you forgot have the receipt.
I’ll wait ‘til the January sales
to buy something that’s for me.

Maybe next year will be different
Maybe I’ll be more myself
Maybe I’ll ask for something more
than to be me

Opening blue papered gifts
smiling, and thanking, as much as she can.
She’s offered champagne, but she’s quit the drink,
she’s told by her grandfather that she needs to be a real man.
There’s whispers around the table,
that a son of a friend of a cousin had turned a little queer,
that he spilled it all after a few beers,
that he actually felt like a woman.

Our heroine makes a decision then and there
she’s gonna stand up and declare:
I’m not a boy
and I never was
and if you have an issue with that
then you can just
fuck off.

But she doesn’t – she just shifts around
uncomfortably while her grandmother frowns.
She thinks to herself it’ll be over soon.
It’ll back to the comfort of her room,
where she won’t have anything to fear,
until she has to worry about Christmas next year.
